 Jesus is the Light

Small Group Discussion

With your children at home, say the point and Bible verse together.

When you feel like you’re in the dark, let Jesus be your light.

John 8:12 NLT … “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness …”

1.     In the Bible verse, who is the light of the world? Jesus

Choose a few review questions.

1.     What are some things that might make a kid feel lost or confused inside? Answers will vary.

2.     How do you think Jesus can give light to a kid when they feel lost or confused inside? He can encourage their spirit, strengthen them, listen, give them courage and love, send friends to listen, etc.

3.     Learning from Jesus helps His light grow in you. What are some ways you can learn from Jesus? Ideas: read about Him in the Bible, spend time praying to Him, listen to good songs about Him, talk with other people who know Him, etc.

4.     When Jesus says, “I am the light of the world,” what do you think He means? Ideas: He shows God’s good way, He can teach you, etc.

Choose an action step question.

1.     When do you feel confused, lost, or like you’re in the dark? Answers will vary.

2.     Name some trusted friends who can help you when you feel that way. Answers will vary.

Pray together.

1.     Ask kids to share things they’d like to pray about.

2.     Write down their prayer requests.

3.     Pray together over the prayer requests.

Not sure what to pray? Pray this: God, please help us follow Jesus’ light when we feel lost, confused, or don’t know what to do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
